evolutionARY JAZZ
We don’t want to fit into a Genre. We have set out to create a Whole New Genre.
“It’s not always about what a listener hears, but what they experience when they listen to music. Does the song evoke a memory, a feeling, a picture, or something completely uncommon or unexpected? Does it remind them of someone or something? No one is listening and thinking, “Wow, did you hear that F# ?” If I pour emotion into a recording or a performance, the listener will feel something. If I really communicate the song well, they will feel exactly what I am feeling.”
— WALTER RUNGE

About Walter Runge
Nestled in the Philadelphia area is The BeanStalk: the laboratory of a Musician bent on fulfilling a prophecy proclaimed by almost everyone who knows him well. Walter has been told over and over again that he is destined to write and perform music. Walt considers himself a student first. He has studied nearly every genre of American Music. Growing up in choirs, playing piano since his 8th birthday; Walt continues to pursue this quest with relentless audacity into his mid- 60s.
Prince once sang, “Ain’t nuttin’ but a muffin. Gotta lotta buttah ta go!”
The release of his album, Bakers Dozen, in 2019 was a declaration to be a Prolific Composer and a Recording Artist. Like poetry, his Music must be performed Live! Walt has played on stages across the United States and Japan. He has introduced his music to recording communities in Europe. These opportunities make the goal of performing around the World an easy, visible step. A step that is not just obtainable, but inevitable!
It is now the summer of 2025, and Walt’s album, Bakers Dozen, is still getting airplay on the iHeartRadio Network of stations. “Back It Up” is the outstanding single; and along with “No Doubt”, they were recorded on his Live Concert Video, CounterParts: Live in Elkins Park. “Why Dontcha Duit” is the third single that persists in gaining popularity through Spotify, Pandora, and other streaming platforms. Another album, About Time For Love, completes a trio of recordings that showcase the diversity of Walter’s writing. CounterParts: Live in Elkins Park shines light on his ability to attract talented musicians capable of playing any genre of music with fearless vulnerability and authenticity.
Back in the BeanStalk, Walter Runge pursues a prolific treasure trove of Sound. Songs that musicians are excited to play. Melodies that dance in the fields of our audience’s imagination. Walt is hoping that one day Evolutionary Jazz will flourish, into something completely New… a Whole New Genre and worthy of its own name and identity!
“It is my goal to not just fit into a Genre of Music, but to create a whole New Genre of Music. Perhaps we will.” ~ Walter Runge
